Rosston City Hall Rennovations Planned

Rosston's City Hall will be renovated and made handicap accessible.

The Rosston City Council, in its regular monthly meeting Thursday, April 2, approved the changes suggested by Rosston Mayor Lewis Jackson.

According to the tentative plans,

the front door will have to be widened to accommodate a wheelchair, with a second door built on the south side of the facility.

The hallway will be closed off, with the office space widened about two feet.

The restrooms will be joined into one, with door, also wide enough to handle a wheelchair. The inside of the restroom will have a handicap commode and the proper railings.

By doing this, the limited space the city has for meetings will not be affected. The current back door will be sealed off.

Jackson said he will advertise for bids on the project to see what it will cost the city.

Outside, he said, there will be a parking spot constructed, designated solely for handicapped persons.

With these changes, he said, visitors to City Hall will have two entrances and exits available.

In addition to taking bids on renovating City Hall, Jackson said bids are being solicited for the water tank repairs.

However, he informed the council, this job is not being advertised. Because of its special nature, the city is contacting companies known to do this type of work.

Jackson said a fax machine was purchased from Campbell Computers in Magnolia, where Windows '95 and Quickbooks were installed on the city's computer. The fax, he added, has already proven to be an asset as companies have been faxed spec sheets for the water tank project.

The council also approved a transfer of $300 from the city general fund to be used to assist the Nevada County Weather Center. The money will be used to help purchase communication equipment for the center.

Jackson told the council a pole has been erected by City Hall where an emergency warning siren will be installed.

The sirens, he said, will be set off by tone and can either be set off individually or all at once, depending on where the severe weather or other emergency is expected or occurring.

Members of the council joked the Rosston area would be hearing the sirens quite a bit as the southern part of the county is consistently hard hit by severe weather.

BUILDING PROGRESSING The new building for Holly's Health mart is coming along nicely. Holly Ross said there is no official date planned to open the business, as the weather can still cause delays. The original plans, she said, were to move in by May 16, but it could be June before the building is completely ready for occupation. She said the bridal registry portion may be expanded, and a showroom was needed for medical equipment, such as lift chairs. According to Ross, the service will not change, deliveries will still be made and 24-hour service is still available same as always.

NOT A PLANT SHOP Prescott Forest and Lawn may sound like a place to purchase plants for gardening, but it isn't. Scot Marbury, the owner, said the business will perform some minor automotive maintenance, while offering Husqvarna lawn equipment, tires, chain saws and some repairs to all-terrain vehicles. There will also be small engine repair for lawn and garden equipment, such as tillers and mowers. However, he said, there is no target date for opening yet, everything still depends on the weather.

FUN FURNITURE Prescott's newest industry, Funshine Furniture, is gearing up for production. While the exact date for opening has not been announced yet, plans are to make wood-based outdoor furniture. This furniture should be much more sturdy than most plastic lawn furniture and hold up better in the Arkansas weather.
