Applications On Hand For Cattlemen's Scholarship Program

Applications are being accepted for the Young and Baker Scholarship offered by the Arkansas Cattlemen's Foundation. This scho-larship will be awarded to a student who are attending a college or university at the present time and should be entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 1998.

Applicants must fill out required forms, be an Arkansas resident, have a minimum high school or college grade point average of 2.5 based on a 4.0 scale and be planning a career in or related to the cattle industry.

Scholarship awards will be made on the basis of academic achievement, individual character, career plans and leadership poten-tial. Preference may be given to children and grandchildren of Arkansas Cattleman's Association members.

Recipient will be notified in writing and payment will be made directly to the college the student is attending. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded in two installments of $500 each semester.

"Howard Young and Frank Baker were instrumental in establishing the Arkansas Cattlemen's Foundation Inc. and securing a home for the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and a learning center for the youth of Arkansas," John McKnight of Searcy, chairman of the scholarship committee, reports.

Young, as executive vice president of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, provided the roots for continued growth of the association. Dr. Frank Baker provided professional input which helped create the Arkansas Cattleman's Foundation Learning and Heritage Center.

Both Young and Baker worked closely together for the benefit of Arkansas cattlemen.

The Young and Baker Scholarship Fund was created to provide individuals training, knowledge and leadership skills for the purpose of advancing the cattle industry.
