Tickets Still Available For BanquetBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 15, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune With only two weeks to go before the annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Banquet, there are still tickets available. However, these tickets are going fast as many area residents are anxious to hear former Razorback and NBA star Sidney Moncrief give the keynote address. Moncrief, an All-American at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and six time NBA All-Star, graduated high school from Little Rock, but has local ties to Prescott his grandparents live here. The banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28. It will be held at the Prescott Middle School cafetorium and is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. Moncrief spent 10 years in the NBA, playing with the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks. In 1987, he became the owner of Sidney Moncrief Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Sherwood. He is civic minded and active in youth programs in the state. This is evidenced by his being recognized as one of the 10 Outstanding Young Americans in 1987. The theme of this year's banquet will be "An Evening of Stars." Along with Moncrief, there will be local "stars" performing as well, along with the "stars" of education, agriculture and civic-mindedness. The Teachers of the Year will be named for the county, as will the Citizen of the Year and Farm Family of the Year. Entertaining "stars" for the shindig will include Elvis, the Statler Brothers, the Pointer Sisters and Dolly Parton. Tickets for the banquet are $15 each and can be purchased at The Partnership, the Bank of Prescott, Prescott Flowers and the Nevada County Branch Bank of Delight. They can also be obtained from members of the banquet committee: Faith Beavert, Mary Godwin, Lanora Dalrymple, Julie Stockton, Elaine Williams, Rhonda Grimes, Margie Johnson, Barbara Lowdermilk, Chuck Sullivan, Michael Jimmerson, Clay Wingfield, Chad Cornelius or Tal Webb. McLelland Construction Co., Inc., is sponsoring Moncrief's address for the evening. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
