Two new events are on tap from the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce.

According to Chamber Manager Mary Godwin, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, there will be a Mother-Daughter Spring Makeover held.

This event will be at the Church of Christ reception hall.

The other event will be held Saturday, May 2 on the Nevada County courthouse lawn. It will be the first annual Spring Cleaning Trade Days.

For the makeover, local retail merchants are sponsoring the event to promote local services along with displaying their merchandise.

Godwin said each merchant will show some of their wares on tables in the reception hall.

"It's geared for women," she said, "and for Mother's Day (May 10).

Beth Ward will be the guest speaker, giving a program on how to look thinner, younger and how to choose colors and patterns.

Ward has been an image instructor and image consultant since 1981 and is certified through Image of Loveliness.

Godwin said light refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded.

Tickets for this event will be $5 for individuals, or $7.50 for two (mother and daughter) in advance. At the door, the tickets will be $10 for two.

Godwin said seating is limited due to the space at the reception hall and urges all area women to get their tickets early.

Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber, or call Barbara Lowdermilk, chairman of the retail merchants committee, at Prescott Flowers, 887-3111.

Godwin said this will be the prelude to the annual fashion show, which is scheduled for June 6.

For the Spring Cleaning Trade Days, area residents can pay $5 and have a booth at the courthouse where they can display their items for sale. This, Godwin said, is much like a county- wide yard sale.

This event is scheduled to begin Saturday, May 2, at 7:30 a.m., lasting until everybody leaves.

In the event of an overflow crowd of booth requests, another set will be set up in the vacant Sterling lot.

This event is also sponsored by the retail merchants committee, Godwin said.

Along with area residents holding the "yard sale", the downtown merchants will be holding a sidewalk sale.

Godwin said booths will cost $5, but this is not a fund raiser for the Chamber. All money paid in for the space will be used to advertise the event.

Those who want to set up a booth are responsible for furnishing their own tables and chairs for display purposes.

They will also be responsible for cleaning up their area once the sale is over.

Godwin said for those not wanting to take their remaining things home, a truck or trailer will be on hand to store them on. Then, these items will be taken and donated to a charitable organization.

Preregistration is required to get a booth, and must be done by 4 p.m. Friday, April 24. Godwin said the booth locations will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A concession stand will be on hand as well.

For more information, or to reserve a booth, call Godwin at the Chamber at 887- 2101.
