Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, April 15, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

As usual, we enjoyed our days off, but we were eager to get back into our routine. Several students are wearing new shirts, blouses and skirts from the 'Easter Parade.' They look so nice. We do have to remind some of the boys that the pants need to be pulled up and the hip pockets are almost in the bend of their knees. Is this a FAD? We sure hope so. (And that it will quickly go away.)

We are enjoying the warmer weather, which allows us to be outside in the morning before class and again after lunch. Being outside gives the students the opportunity to visit and renew friendships or make new ones, as they are not always in the same classes with their friends. Of course, the teachers enjoy outside duty!

The teachers are still trying to decide on the furniture for their new rooms. A decision may be made, but after talking to another teachers, minds are changed. (Remember, however, that it is a woman's privilege to change her mind.) It is just exciting to be able to select new things, as what we are using probably many of you readers used also. Although we do our best to take care of what we have, there comes a time when things just simply wear out.

The GMS Student Council assembly will be April 22 and you are invited to attend. The candidates for officers in the Student Council will make their campaign speeches. They are busy campaigning as the posters and signs on the walls indicate. It will be a difficult decision on many positions, as several candidates are involved. Each candidate is to be com-plimented, as they are following strict rules during the campaign. Voting will take place April 23, the day after the speeches.

We appreciate "our" kids' parents who encourage their child to get their homework completed and turned in on time. Also, to convince their child to ask a teacher a question if they do not understand something and realize that they will not be in trouble for asking for explanations when needed. Parents, you are such an important member of "our team".

We have a four-day weekend this week, which brings curiosity about how things are working out at Saratoga, where they are on a four- day a week schedule this school year. It is interesting to hear about other schools, as it so often makes us appreciate our system so much more.

We enjoy hearing from you and are pleased that you keep in touch with us as we are making those Classy Moments each day at GMS.
