Williams' Work Praised

Published Wednesday, April 15, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Area Agency on Aging recently honored Peggy Williams, case manager, as part of the Arkansas celebration of social workers-case managers. Williams is responsible for Clark and Pike counties.

As case manager, Williams helps families match their needs personal care, food stamps, housing needs, social security, etc. with programs, services and opportunities. Many times individuals or families are not aware of services available to them, or they do not know how to access these services.

Case managers will answer questions on the phone or go to the home to make assessments. They work not only with Area Agency on Aging staff and programs, but with other public and non-profit organizations to find services.

Williams has been a resident of Arkadelphia for many years and is well known in the area for her assistance to older people.

She was the first Area Agency on Aging employee in this area over 15 years ago with only one client. Her peers say she started looking and asking about people who needed assistance, and she is still doing that today.

Williams is a graduate of Pocahontas High School, and she attended the University of Virginia. She received her nursing training at Ouachita Hospital in Hot Springs.

She has six children.

In its salute to Williams, Area Agency on Aging said she has made a "significant contribution" to its senior programs, "but more importantly, on the service she continues to provide to her clients."

For more information concerning senior programs and services, call 1-800-467-2174.
