Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, April 22, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesRain, sun, warm, cool. My good-ness, we hardly know what to wear from day-to-day. We enjoy the sun and warm weather so we can go outside after lunch. Before long, however, we will probably be complaining about the sun and hot weather. We are never completed satisfied. The teachers had a real treat last week. Mr. Smithson, our superintendent arranged a tour of the new building for the teachers after school. Such excitement! They saw their rooms, although the building is not completed, and you can only imagine what kind of arranging and rearranging went through their minds as they stood in their assigned rooms. The building is coming along so nicely and it won't be long before the big move will take place. This community has a lot to be proud of, as the school district is proud to have such a supportive community. The faculty and staff would like to express their most sincere appreciation to the Cabe family for all of the financial help they have given to our school. We realize that it was through their generosity that we will soon have a new middle school. We know they do not give to have any special honor bestowed upon them, but they give because Gurdon is their home and they are pleased to be able to be a part of making the educational environment as pleasant as it can be. A great big thank you to the Cabe family. It is nice to have Mrs. Franklin back with us, but we realize it must have been difficult to leave that new baby! Welcome back. We often take things and people for granted without intending to be neglectful. We need to pause and say thank you to Debbie, our school nurse. When we need her, we depend on her being here for us. She does so much for our students, as she conducts tests of various types trying to help keep them as healthy as they can be. So, Debbie, a great big thank you for caring and taking care of us. Jamie Warren, an eighth grader, turned an ankle and fell on the steps. Fortunately, she did not break a bone, but it hurt probably as bad. Hopefully, Jamie, you will be back to normal real soon. Also we are still missing Keith Reed, a seventh grader, who had surgery and is recovering at home. We are hoping he will be back with us real soon. John Sparks, also a seventh grader, has been absent several days and hopefully he will be able to return to class quickly. Although these students are not able to attend class, they are concerned about their school work and have had assignments picked up at school by their parents so they can keep up with what their classmates are doing. Now that is real concern and dedication. Progress reports went out Monday and are to be returned by Wednesday. This reminds us that the next report card will be the last one for this school year 1997-98. The walls in the halls are "covered" with campaign posters of the candidates for the GMS Student Council election coming up soon. They will give their campaign speeches Wednesday, April 29, and the vote will take place the following day. Politicians at work! I would like to say thank you for all of the nice compliments concerning the Classy Moments. It is such a treat to be able to share our news with you. Be sure to let The Gurdon Times know how much you enjoy the article. We look forward to continue to make those Classy Moments at GMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
