Library Week Is April 20-25

Published Wednesday, April 22, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

National Library Week is being observed this week at Prescott High School. It is April 20- 25.

This year's theme is 'The More You Read, the More You Know.'

Each student borrowing books during the week will receive a bookmark with the entire theme poem on it:

The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the smarter you grow. The smarter you grow, the stronger your voice, when speaking your mind, or making a choice.

Each day teachers are asked to encourage reading by allowing reading time for the students. A display will be in the lobby. The world's best selling the book, the Bible, will be part of the display celebrating this special week.

Earlier in April the Prescott school cafeteria supervisor, Janice Stephens, allowed each of the district's three librarians to select a menu for one day. This added to the fun of observance.

Schools across the United States are participating in observing National Library Week with an assortment of activities.

National Library Week is a significant observance in that it calls attention to the importance of reading. Reading is one of the most important skills students acquire. Parents are urged to encourage reading by turning off the television.

Children of all ages enjoy being read to by parents and this provides special family time.

Prescott High School is proud to participate in National Library Week, because reading is such an important skill for students to develop.
