Events Are Set For Spring By Chamber

Spring is a busy time of the year for everyone.

Students are preparing for the end of their academic years, unless they are juniors and seniors. Then, they are getting ready for prom night.

The seniors are also preparing for graduation and commencement ceremonies.

But students aren't the only ones who are busy. The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce has a full schedule on tap as well.

The Chamber is hosting a Mother-Daughter Spring Makeover at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 23 at the Church of Christ reception hall.

Local merchants are sponsoring the makeover to promote local services, along with displaying their wares at the show.

In addition, Beth Ward will be the guest speaker, giving a program on how to look thinner, younger and how to choose colors and patters to flatter the wearer.

Ward has been an image instructor and image consultant since 1981, and is certified through Images of Loveliness.

Light refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded at the event.

Tickets for the Mother-Daughter Makeover will be $5 for individuals and $7.50 for two in advance. At the door, a pair of tickets will cost $10.

Seating is limited because of the space available, so, Mary Godwin, Chamber manager, urges area women to get their tickets early.

These tickets can be purchased at the Chamber office or by calling Barbara Lowdermilk, chairman of the Prescott Retail Merchant's Committee, at 887-3111.

This will be followed by the Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Banquet Tuesday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Prescott Middle School Cafetorium.

Tickets are going fast, probably because this year's speaker is Sidney Moncrief, former basketball star with the Arkansas Razorbacks and Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association.

The theme for this year's banquet is "An Evening of Stars." Along with Moncrief, other stars will be recognized, including the Citizen of the Year and Teachers of the Year for the area school districts.

Local "stars" will provide the entertainment for the evening. These "stars" will include Elvis, the Statler Brothers, the Pointer Sister and Dolly Parton.

Banquet tickets are $15 each and can be obtained from the Chamber or any member of the banquet committee.

A third event on tap from the Chamber is the First Annual Spring Cleaning Trade Days.

This has been set for Saturday, May 2, on the Nevada County Courthouse lawn. Those wanting to participate will have to get up early as it begins at 7:30 a.m.

Interested residents can pay $5 for a booth where they can display their items for sale. This, Godwin said, is much like a county wide yard sale.

Should there be more requests for booths than there is space available, another group will be set up in the vacant Sterling lot.

While this is going on, Godwin said, the retail merchants downtown will be having a sidewalk sale.

All money raised from Trade Days will be used for advertising the event.

Those who bring items to the sale will be responsible for cleaning their space. For those not wanting to take their things back, Godwin said a truck or trailer will be available to store them on. From there, these items will be donated to a charitable organization.

Preregistration is required for a booth and the booths will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For more information, call Godwin at 887-2101.
