Alcoholics Anonymous, a fellowship of men and women who wish to stop drinking, meets every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991.


Mom's in Touch weekly prayer group, praying for local schools and children, meet Tuesdays at 1:45 at First Baptist Church. Call 887-6376 for more information.


A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, October 28; Tuesday, November 23, and Tuesday, December 21.

Supplemental security income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. To find out if you are eligible, call 1-800-772-1213.


Morrow Cemetery Association and family reunion will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 24, at the cemetery. There will be potluck lunch.

In case of inclement weather the meeting will be in the Prescott Housing Authority community room.


Paula Jane and Kirk Gay of Okolona are proud to announce the birth of their son, Keymari Davaugh, Thursday, October 7, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.

He weighed six pounds and 10 ounces and was 19 inches long.

Grandparents are Pauline Buford of Okolona, Louis and Bessie Young of Prescott. Great grandmother is Lucretia Smith of Prescott.


Shon and Liam Hastings of Hope are proud to announce the birth of their son, Trenton Michael, born Wednesday, October 13, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.

He weighed seven pounds and 4= ounces and was 19= inches long.

Grandparents are Lisa McClure of Prescott; Diane Henson of Blevins Jerry Hastings of Gurdon and Buddy and Marion Rhodes of Gurdon. Great grandparents are Gloria and Charlie Ellis of Sutton; Mr. and Mrs. Roland Walters of Gurdon and Allene Purtle of Hope. Great great grandmother is Jimmie Clark of Hope.


The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a Halloween costume contest for all area business employees. This contest will take place Friday, October 29.

A judging team will come around to your business and judge you while at work.

Money awards will be given. First place will be $20; second place - $15 and third place - $10.

If you would like to enter call Mary Godwin at at 887-2101 by October 28. There is no entry fee.


There will be a ribbon-cutting and open house at Nevada County Recycle and Work Center at 314 E. Second South Thursday, October 28, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

The ribbon-cutting will take place at 10 a.m. The chamber would like to invite everyone to attend this special occasion to see this new building.
