Moms-In Touch prayer group for schools meets at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays at First Baptist Church. Call 887-6376 for additional information. National Day of Prayer will be at the courthouse from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on May 7. Local pastors and leaders will be offering prayer. Entertainment will be local music. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be in Prescott in the Social Security room in the courthouse on Thursday, May 28, and Thursday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. Southwest Arkansas Counseling and Mental Health Center will be hosting its grand opening ribbon cutting and the Chamber coffee on April 30 from 9:30 to 11:00. The center is located in the former Split Rail building. The ribbon cutting will take place at 10:00. Everyone is encouraged to come and see the fine work that is going on there. Descendants of Benjamin Marion and Florence Martin Wicker are having a family gathering at the home of Jerry Don and Anita Joyce Wicker on Highway 200 between Morris and Cale Saturday, May 2. The Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngster's (HIPPY) is now taking applications for the 1998-99 school year. If your child will be 3 or 4 by September 15, you can enroll him in this home based program that is of no cost to the public. All materials are furnished free. The Emmet School board will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in room 4 of the school. The agenda will include elementary and high school principals' reports, superintendent's report, discuss summer school program, consider bids on mowing school grounds and personnel matters. The annual meeting of the Bluff City Cemetery Association will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3 in the Church of Christ auditorium. The annual reunion of the former Bluff City students will be held at 10 a.m. to mid afternoon at the Prescott Country Club on Saturday, May 2. A catered fish lunch will be served. The annual Bluff City community homecoming will be held Sunday, May 3, with dinner on the ground at noon. The public is invited. White's Chapel Baptist Church near Bodcaw is having homecoming services May 3 at 10:30 a.m. Bro. Jimmy Lewis will bring the devotional and Bro. Joe Brown will be bringing the morning message. Lunch at noon and singing in the afternoon. Donzel Goodman will be performing with special singing. The Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Bluegrass Festival will be May 8 and 9 from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the CNB stage in the Fair Park in Hope. It will feature Grand Prarie, Twice As Nice, Shine-Ons, Barkman Creek, Lazy U and Hempstead County Melody Boys. Admission is free. For more information, call 870-777-3640. The annual homecoming and business meeting for the Weir Cemetery Association will be Saturday, May 2. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by pot- luck lunch at noon. The annual business meeting of the Ebenezer Cemetery will be held at the Bluff City Baptist Church Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. Everyone is interested in the cemetery are urged to attend. The Hope Quilters Guild will hold its monthly business meeting Monday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in the Citizens National Bank conference room in Hope. Shawn and Alison Crane of Cabot, announce the arrival of their daughter, Anna Rose, born on Thursday, April 16, 1998. She weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Don Egelhoff of Little Rock and Judy Egelhoff of Cabot. Paternal grandparents are Gary and Sharon Crane of Texarkana. Maternal great grandparents are Audrley Witham of St. Joseph, Mo. Paternal great grandparents are Virgil and Mildred Burke and the late Clarence and Ida Crane of Prescott. The Marshall and Elextive Lewis families will have a reunion Sunday, May 3, at the Prescott Housing Authority building. The families will start meeting between 11:30 and 12:00.
