National Day Of Prayer SetPublished Wednesday, April 29, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneNational Day of Prayer is an annual event for Americans of all faiths to take time to pray for the nation and its leaders. The National Day of Prayer Task Force focuses specifically on promoting the need to pray for our nation and those in position of cultural influence. National days of prayer have been called as early as 1775 with the first Continental Congress. Abraham Lincoln also called for such a day in 1863. National Day of Prayer as an annual event was established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1952, and signed into law by President Harry Truman. The law was amended in 1988 and signed by President Ronald Reagan to be the first Thursday of May each year. Chairman for the National Day of Prayer is Mrs. Shirley Dobson, wife of Dr. James Dobson, who is president and founder of Focus of the Family. The organization has a small, full-time staff and network of approximately 40,000 volunteers nationwide. The theme this year is "...return to me with all your heart..." Prescott will be joining in on National Day of Prayer on May 7 at the courthouse from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
