Curley Wolves Finish Fourth In Local Meet

Prescott's boys finished fourth, with the girls coming in eighth in the annual Merchant Relays Thursday.

The Wolves scored 70 points in the meet, while the Wolverettes tallied 26.

Nashville took the top spot for the boys with 109.5 points, while De Queen was the winner on the girls' side with 87, one point ahead of Genoa Central.

The order of finish for the boys went as follows: Nashville, 109.5; Mineral Springs, 85; Stamps, 73; Prescott, 70; De Queen, 61; Hope, 42; Gurdon, 21; Genoa, 17.5; Walker, 12; Dierks, 10; Emerson, 8; Hampton, 7; Hatfield, 2; and Bright Star, 1.

On the girls' side the final order was as follows: De Queen, 87; Genoa, 86; Emerson, 64; Murfreesboro, 45; Nashville, 42; Mineral Springs, 36; Dierks, 33; Prescott, 26; Hope, 22; Ashdown-Stamps, 18; Walker, 12; Gurdon, 11; Hampton- Spring Hill, 5; and Bright Star-Walker, 2.

The outstanding field event performer for the girls was Mufreesboro's Krys Davis, while Lady Rattler Mandy Mitchell was tops in the running events.

For the boys, Gonni Robinson of Stamps was the outstanding field event performer, with De Queen's Trey Harris the outstanding runner.

Checking the girls' field events, Hope' Hendrix won the shot put with a toss of 35-11. Next was Genoa's Humphries at 32-6, with Lensey of Stamps third at 30-11. Gurdon's Glenn was fourth at 30-61/2, with Bright Star's Larry fifth at 30-2. Baker of Emerson was sixth with a toss of 29-10.

In the discus, Murfreesboro's Davis was first with a hurl of 112-6. Next was Wenta, Nashville, 97-9; Rainey, Gurdon, 94-10; Henrix, Hope, 94-6; Falcinelli, Nashville, 91-11; and Humphries, Genoa, 85-7.

The long jump was won by Turley of Nashville, clearing 16-4. Next was Robinson, Emerson, 15-111/2; Marks, Mineral Springs, 15-91/2; Cooper, Emerson, 15-8; Mitchell, Murfreesboro, 15-7; and Burns, Murfreesboro, 14-8.

The high jump was won by Pree of Stamps with a leap of 4-10.

Riley, Ashdown, and Allen, Genoa, tied for second at 4-8, with Robinson, Emerson, and Mitchell, Murfreesboro, also clearing 4-8 for fourth. Brisby, Hope, was sixth, at 4-8.

Genoa Central took the top two places in the pole vault. Purifoy cleared 8-0 for first, with Humphries getting over 7-6 for second.

In the field events, De Queen won the 3200 meter relay with a time of 10:40.46. Genoa was second, 11:04.93; followed by Dierks, 11:54.56; Murfreesboro, 12:27.06; Spring Hill, 12:31.14; and Gurdon, 13:11.37.

Mineral Springs captured the 400 meter relay with a time of 52:46. Emerson was next, 52:62; Dierks, 53:44; Walker, 53: 62; Nashville 53:66; and Hope, 54:09.

Nashville's Turley won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16:40. Mitchell, Murfreesboro, was next at 16:46; Robinson, Emerson, 17:56; Allen, Genoa, 18:21; Hardmon, Stamps, 18:24; and White, Genoa, 18:56.

Prescott's Moss took the 100 meter dash with a time of 12:87. Ashdown's Gulley was next in 12:88, followed by Cooper of Emerson in 13:00. Robinson of Emerson finished in 13:31, with Morris of Dierks fifth in 13:40. Turley came in sixth in 13:41.

De Queen's Soto took the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:40.62. This was followed by Pigeon, De Queen, 6:05.30; Anderson, Genoa, 6:13.81; Gorman, Hampton, 6:18.84; C. Tipton, Dierks, 6:21.31; and McNeil, Spring Hill, 6:46.96.

Emerson captured the 800 meter relay with a time of 1:52.56, followed by Walker, 1:52.58; Mineral Springs, 1:53.56; Hope, 1:53.87; Ashdown, 1:57.00; and Dierks, 1:57.04.

The 400 meter dash was won by Dierks' Cogburn in 63.79, with Lites of De Queen next in 66.12; Bryant, Genoa, 66.64; Brown, Mineral Springs, 68.10; Honore, Hope, 68.49; and Brown, De Queen, 69.28.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Murfreesboro's Mitchell won with a time of 47.97. Nashville's Turley was next at 50.86; Allen, Genoa, 52.21; White, Genoa, 52.38; Morris, Dierks, 52.68; and Gorman, Hampton, 53.55.

De Queen's Nanell won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:37.15. Next came Soto, De Queen, 2:38.32; Stockton, Prescott, 2:41.34; Roberts, Genoa, 2:42.64; Stephens, Genoa, 2:46.4; and Sweden, Murfreesboro, 3:04.94.

Prescott's Moss had none growing in the 200 meter dash as she covered the distance in 26.31. She was followed by Cooper, Emerson, 26.81; Ester, De Queen, 27.11; Gulley, Ashdown, 27.5; Morris, Dierks, 28.20; and Robinson, Emerson, 28.37.

The Lady Leopards of De Queen took first and second in the 3200 meter run. Pigeon was first with a time of 13:02.19, with Soto next in 13:02.96. Anderson, Genoa, was next at 13:36.65; Stevens, Genoa, 13:45.12; McNeil, Spring Hill, 14:31.96; and C. Tipton, Dierks, 15:36.81.

Mineral Springs took the mile relay with a time of 4:29.04. Next was De Queen, 4:31.24; Murfreesboro, 4:35.68; Genoa, 4:37.35; Walker, 4:47.08; and Dierks, 4:58.19.

Turning to the male version of the events, Gamble of Mineral Springs took the shot put with a toss of 51-101/2. He was followed by Jr. Humphrey, Nashville, 48-31/2; Cutshell, Genoa, 45-111/2; Bailey, Stamps, 44-51/2; Jr. Humphrey, Nashville, 43-4; and Penny, Gurdon, 43- 31/2.

The discus was captured by Humphrey, who also finished fourth in the event. His winning toss was 153-2; while the fourth place heave was 128-2. Gamble, Mineral Springs was second, 145-1; with Walker's Marshal third, 137-8. Cutshell of Genoa was fifth with a toss of 127-10, with De Queen's Morris sixth, 125-9.

In the long jump, Mineral Springs' Briggs had a jump of 20-51/5 for first place, followed by Prescott's Glenn, 20-5. Next was Henderson, Stamps, 20-4; Raglon, Hope, 20-1/2; Gammage, Prescott, 19-31/2; and Joseph, Stamps, 19-3.

The high jump was won by Robinson, Stamps, clearing 6-6. Emerson's Robinson was next at 6-4. They were followed by Hovell, Stamps, 6-0; Graham, Prescott, 5-10; White, Nashville, and Hamilton, Genoa, tied for fifth at 5-10.

Jason Morrow continued skying on the pole vault as he took yet another meet in the event. This time, he cleared 14-0 for the No. 1 position. He was followed by Minter, Stamps, 12- 0; Harris, Prescott, 12-0; Lee, De Queen, 11-6; Roberts, Stamps, 11-0; and Braden, Genoa, 11- 0.

In the 3200 meter relay, De Queen took the top spot with a time of 8:30.41. Next was Nashville, 8:38.65; Mineral Springs, 9:09.34; Genoa, 9:10.63; Stamps, 9:18.68; and Bright Star, 9:31.79.

Hope captured the 400 meter relay with a time of 43.31. Next came Mineral Springs, 44.28; Nashville, 44.60; Stamps, 44. 66; Walker, 46.38; and Prescott, 46.40.

Stamps took first and second in the 110 hurdles. Joseph was first, 15.31, with Long, second, 16.11. Next came Dix, Mineral Springs, 16.27; White, Nashville, 16.17; Mickle, De Queen, 17.33; and Hamilton, Mineral Springs, 19.29.

In the 100 meter dash, Hope's Ramsey was first in 10.91. Next came Coulter, Nashville, 11.09; Daniels, Stamps, 11.34; Hopson, Gurdon,
