Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, April 29, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesWe have such good news to share with you. (You probably have already heard about it.) When we move into the new building we will also have a new name, Cabe Middle School. We are so excited to be able to let a family know how much we appreciate their generosity by naming our school in their honor. I really had to work hard last week to keep from stating in the article the plan to go before the school board with the request by the faculty of GMS to rename the school. The students were given the opportunity to sign a banner in their support of the new name and was shown to the school board at the regular monthly meeting. Mrs. Clingan had the honor of reading the request by the faculty and presenting the banner to the board. The board voted unanimously in favor of the name change. The Cabe family has made a dream come true, and we say thank you, thank you! Each of you have a reason to be proud of the educational environment in Gurdon. The new campus is really a great accomplishment and one to be proud of, as it took your willingness to give in the passage of the millage increase a few years ago to make the new high school a reality. Each of you deserves a thank you. It is such a wonderful relationship to have the community and school working together to made Gurdon's educational system second to none. This article cannot omit the people who work long hours and then give extra "personal" time to see to it that everything runs as smoothly as possible in our schools. Their responsibility, although is an elected position, is often times a thankless job. School board mem-bers, you are greatly appreciated and an extended thank you for your willingness to give your time to make certain that our schools are provided with the necessary equipment and personnel to fulfill the educational process in Gurdon. Wednesday will be the big day for the candidates in the campaign for officers in the GMS Student Council for school year 1998-99, as they will make their speeches before the student body in an assembly. Voting will take place on Thursday. We are glad to have Keith Reed and Jamie Warren back in class, as they have been out due to medical reasons. Our sympathy to Kim and Ashley Hulan in the death of their grandfather. Linda Gayle Hogue, secretary of our school, was honored with a surprise potluck last week. (No thanks to a certain person by the name of Roe, who has difficulty in keeping secrets.) As national Secretary's Day was being observed, Mrs. Hogue was made aware of how important she has become to our school. We will be busy as we can be as we continue to make those Classy Moments at GMS. (The name Cabe Middle School will be for the new building, as we will remain GMS at our present location.)
