Fire Destroys Local HomeBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, April 29, 1998 in the Gurdon Times Fire destroyed the home of Tom Allen late Tuesday night, April 21. According to Gurdon Fire Chief Jake McBride, the fire report came in shortly before midnight with the blaze being in the vicinity of Second and Sixth streets off Magnolia near Gurdon Middle School. Two trucks and firefighting crews arrived to battle the flames which had already engulfed the frame structure. Firemen with the Gurdon Fire Department fought the fire until about 1:30 a.m., but had to return to the same scene again Wednesday evening at about 7 p.m. as the smoldering remains caught fire again. McBride said the fire wasn't of a suspicious nature and arson isn't expected. The fire, he said, apparently began in the kitchen area, but no cause could be immediately determined, as McBride had not spoken with the owner as of press time.
