Church Women Hold Meeting

Published Wednesday, May 6, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

The Women of the Church of God met April 21 in the home of Vivian Spruill. She presented the lesson to introduce this year's theme, 'Ordinary Women, Extra-ordinary Purpose.' God's purpose for all is good. This purpose is life, abundant life.

The Old Testament speaks of "Shalom" as God's purpose for all of creation. The word Shalom means wholeness, health, well-being, integrity, at-one-ness, joy and harmony. This is God's extra-ordinary purpose for the world and He has given us the extraordinary privilege of being part of that purpose, the group was told.

Before closing, each woman was given the opportunity to re-commit to God's extraordinary purpose by praying the following prayer:

God of Abundant life,

If we are not mindful, life sometimes seems ordinary and mundane. We take ourselves, the people around us, and the tasks we have to do for granted, overlooking their value, and perhaps even wishing we were somewhere else, doing something else. Forgive us if we have become side-tracked into pursuits that are not within your will, if we have wasted our time and our abilities in pastimes not worthy of our falling. Forgive us when we fail to see each day as an extraordinary gift, an opportunity to participate in your extraordinary purpose. We re-commit ourselves to you and ask that during this year you will fill our ordinary lives with your extraordinary purpose. In the name of Christ, Amen.
