Paull Seeks Change In Mayor's Office

Danny Paull is running for the position of Mayor of Gurdon.

His race is a challenge to incumbent Rick Smith in the May 19 preferential party primary.

In discussing why he entered the race, Paull said he has spent time at city hall as a member of the Gurdon Water and Sewer Commission and a fireman with the Gurdon Fire Department.

He said there are changes needing to be made in how the city is ran. Paull also said it is a conflict of interest with a husband and wife being mayor and city recorder/treasurer, though both are elected offices.

"I want to work for the people," he said, "and keep Gurdon a little country town. I have no plans for office at this time, if elected, but I might want to change things after the first of the year.

"If there are any qualifications to be mayor," Paull continued, "I probably don't have them. This is a big step for me, but it's something I want to do. It took a lot of time to decide."

As a member of the Water and Sewer Commission and a firefighter, Paull said he wants to take things a step further and become mayor.

Discussing issues, he said people are talking about the emergency warning siren and animal control. "I now have nothing to do with it," he said, "and it will be decided before the first of the year.

"I agree with the siren, it will help the area."

On the issue of animal control, Paull said something needs to be done about the animals running loose, but isn't sure an ordinance as strict as the one passed by the Gurdon City Council is necessary.

Paul and his wife, Donna Gail, have one daughter, Amanda.

He enjoys hunting, fishing and auto racing.
