Students Are Selected

Published Wednesday, May 6, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

Prescott High School has announced that two students have been selected from a very large number of applicants to attend an AEGIS program entitled SLIP, which stands for Summer Language Immersion Program.

Erica Burdue, the 16-year-old daughter of John and Gina Burdue, and Doug Young, the 16-year-old son of Danny and Jan Young, have both been selected for this prestigious program.

This is the first time Prescott High School has had anyone accepted into this camp.

For two weeks students will be immersed in the culture of two different languages.

One week the games and activities will be conducted in Spanish and another week everything will be done in German. Native students from countries speaking those languages will be the teachers as well as gifted Arkansas teachers who work in these fields.

The students will have passports from these countries issued to them. Their purchases at the store on campus must be made with appropriated foreign currency.

Foods prepared will be made according to recipes from these countries.

The camp will be conducted during June at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.

Burdue and Young were recommended for this program by Jane Purtle, their Spanish teacher.
