Virginia Finley Visits Hometown

Published Wednesday, May 6, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

E. Virginia Finley from Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly E. Virginia Blakely from Cale, returned for a recent visit March 23-26.

She is the niece of Ruth Paden Ingram.

Finley, who is employed by Oklahoma Department of Public Safety as executive secretary to the commissioner, indicated that she always reflects on the memories of growing up in Cale in the mist of her large family of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and many cousins and friends.

During her four-day visit to Cam-den, Hope, Rosston and Prescott, she found the communities to be pleas-ant and serene.

While in Camden she visited her Uncle Clyde 'Buck' McKinney, who was very ill but was able to call her name. She even met relatives during this trip that she had not met before.

She was informed that a member of the local police department of Prescott is a relative and hopes to meet him on her return visit.

Although she was here for a few days, she was able to relive some of those old memories. For example, she said, "My Aunt Ruth is still the best cook in Arkansas."

Also, "the people in Prescott continues to be down home and displays an open arm to those who return. Furthermore, I am pleased to see that the employment status of the community continues to be high comparative to the job market in some larger cities."

Finley was so impressed with the community that she would like to have property here with a house or trailer to return for periodic vacations. Although this is not possible now, she will hold this as a dream to pursue in the future. She plans to revisit the community soon.

The hospitality showed by her Aunt Ruth and Frank Ingram (daughters: Celia, Ernestine, Hazel), Ollie and Randolph Jackson, Benora and Less Box, Debra Flenory (daughters: Kanesha and Latasha) will be remembered.
