Alcoholics Anonymous, a fellowship of men and women who wish to stop drinking, meets every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Al-Anon, for those affected by another's drinking, meets Thursday

evenings at 8:00 in the church. For more information call 887-5991.

Narcotics Anonymous now meets in Gurdon at the Presbyterian Church on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, call 353-6612.

Moms-In Touch prayer group for schools meets at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays at First Baptist Church. Call 887-6376 for additional information.

National Day of Prayer will be at the courthouse from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on May 7. Local pastors and leaders will be offering prayer. Entertainment will be local music. For more information, call Beth Ward at 887-6376. In case of rain it will be in the First Baptist Church gym.

A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be in Prescott in the Social Security room in the courthouse on Thursday, May 28, and Thursday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213.

The Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngster's (HIPPY) is now taking applications for the 1998-99 school year.

If your child will be 3 or 4 by September 15, you can enroll him in this home based program that is of no cost to the public. All materials are furnished free. If you would like more information on enrolling your child in HIPPY, you can do so by calling 887-3651 or 887- 6743.

Nevada Schools gifted and talented program is accepting nominations for the 1998-99 school year. Contact Pat Bingham at 871-2478 or 871-2475 for more information.

The Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Bluegrass Festival will be May 8 and 9 from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the CNB stage in the Fair Park in Hope. It will feature Grand Prairie, Twice As Nice, Shine-Ons, Barkman Creek, Lazy U and Hempstead County Melody Boys. Admission is free. For more information, call 870-777-3640.

The Sweet Home Church, located on Highway 371 between Prescott and Blevins, will hold its annual homecoming services on May 10. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Bro. Barney Thornton will be bringing the message at 11:00. Lunch will be served at noon. There will be singing beginning at 1:15. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Sweet Home Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting immediately following the homecoming services. Anyone interested the cemetery is invited to attend. This meeting will be held May 10.

Vegetable and fruit growers interested in participating in a small market in Prescott this season should call the Cooperative Extension office in Nevada County at 887-2818.

The Wyatt Harris family descendants reunion will be held at the Prescott Housing Authority on Hale Avenue Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m. Picnic lunch will be served at noon. All relatives and friends are invited.

Mt. Vernon AME Church in Stephens will be having its cemetery workday Saturday, May 9, at 8 a.m. Bring your own equipment.

The Blevins annual school reunion will be held at Western Sizzlin in Hope in the banquet room on Saturday, May 16, beginning at 2:30 p.m. with refreshments and visiting. A Dutch-treat buffet will be served at 6:30 p.m. All associated with the Blevins school through the years are invited.

There will be a tennis clinic with clinic pro Jonathan Martin, sponsored by Nevada County Women Tennis League. Sign up deadline is May 11. There is a $10 fee for non members. For more information, call 887-3708.
