University of Arkansas Community College at Hope is pleased to announce that Chad J. Bingham and Leslie Clements, both seniors at Nevada High School, have been awarded a technical scholar-ship.

The scholarships are based upon an ACT score and grade point average plus a recommendation from a school official.

Bingham is the son of Don and Barbara Bingham of Rosston. He will be pursuing a degree in associate of applied science in banking and finance.

Clements is the daughter of Robert and Willie Faye Clements of Emmet. She will be pursuing a degree in associate of applied science in business technology.

Katie Lynn Gordon was recently selected as the Greek Woman of the Year and the Most Enthusiastic Greek at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.

Gordon was also selected to receive SAU's Outstanding Student Leader Award and Outstanding Service Award. She was selected by a panel of instructors from over 100 nominated student leaders and was chosen for her leadership ability, involvement and commitment to SAU.

Gordon has also been selected to receive a President's Scholarship for the 1998-99 academic year through the Phi Mu National Foundation.

She is president of Phi Mu Sorority.

In a recent awards ceremony, Phi Mu was honored as being the outstanding student organization of the year. Gordon was recognized, along with other outstanding leaders, at the inauguration and awards ceremony held Tuesday, April 28, at SAU.

Gordon has been active in the Student Government Association at SAU. She served as a student senator for two years. She was a member of the 1996-97 Mulerider yearbook staff. She has been active in Phi Beta Lambda and was recently into Sigma Beta Delta, a national honorary business society.

She has been named to the 1997-98 list of Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges.

Gordon is a junior accounting major, and will graduate in the fall of 1999.

She is the daughter of Janet and Alex Gordon of Prescott.

Andy Almand, a senior at Prescott High School, has been notified of his selection as a recipient of the Earl Collins Foundation of Kiwanis International Scholarship.

He was one of 27 finalists selected from over 150 applicants. The applicants have not only excelled in academics, but also in individual achievements, student honors and extracurricular activities.

The Kiwanians of the Missouri-Arkansas District of Kiwanis International have established this fund to provide for scholarships and other worthy needs. The funds for this scholarship are a portion of interest earned from investments of money contributed by Kiwanis Club from the two states of Missouri and Arkansas.

Almand is the son of Dale and Donita Almand of Prescott. He is currently ranked first in his class and will graduate with highest honors.

LaKeena T. Murphy of Prescott will receive a certificate in respiratory care at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock on Saturday, May 16.

In all, UAMS have 174 students receiving a degree in the College of Health Related Professions. Ronald H. Winters, Ph.D., will present the candidates to Chancellor Harry P. Ward, M.D.

Several students from Prescott will be receiving degrees Saturday, May 16, at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. The ceremonies will be held in Carpenter-Haygood Stadium.

Graduating from Prescott are Krista Ann Burton, BA; Lee Britt Carman, BS; April C. Cummings, BBA; Carolyn Sue Davis, BA; Jennifer Lea Gordon, BBA; Jimmy V. Grimes, BBA; Teresa Carol Hamilton, BA; Amanda R. Montgomery, BSE; April L. Stewart, BS; Cynthia D. Wesson, BBA; Patsy D. Wesson, BSE; and Marc A. Williams, BS;

Billy D. Womble will be graduating from the Graduate School with an MBA.

According to Dr. Robert Houston, vice president for academic affairs at Henderson, there will be 152 candidates for graduation from The Ellis College of Arts and Sciences, 47 from the School of Business, 98 from the School of Education and 44 from the Graduate School.

Dr. Bruce Smith from the School of Education will provide the faculty charge for the 10 a.m. ceremony, and Wendi L. Bass a business major, will present the student response.

The university will provide three ceremonies at Arkansas Hall at Henderson and 12th Street in the event of inclement weather. In the event of rain, graduates from The Ellis College will march at 10 a.m., graduates from The School of Education and the Graduate School will march at 12 noon, and graduates from The School of Business will march at 2 p.m. For more information on the ceremony, call 230-5402.

Stephen Henson and Richard Wicker, seniors at Emmet High School, have been awarded a $500 scholarship from VFW Post 8671 in Prescott.

Henson is the son of Frank and Louise Henson of Curtis. He plans to attend the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope this fall pursuing a business degree.

Wicker is the son of Keith and Kathleen Wicker of Hope. He also plans to attend the University of Arkansas Community College, pursuing training towards broadcasting meteorology.

Amanda Clift and Chandra Banks, seniors at Emmet High School, have been awarded the B.B. Hamilton Sr. Scholarship for $750. Mr. Hamilton was a former student of Emmet. The scholarship is provided by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Hamilton, in his honor.

Clift is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Clift of Emmet. She plans to attend Southern Arkansas University at Magnolia this fall, pursuing a degree in business.

Banks is the daughter of Mrs. Tammy Franklin of Hope. She plans to attend the University of Arkansas Community College to begin her education towards becoming a veterinarian.
