Police Week ProclaimedPublished Wednesday, May 13, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesGurdon Mayor Rick W. Smith has proclaimed this week as National Police Week in the city of Gurdon. The proclamation reads: "Whereas, in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a law establishing a National Police Week; and "Whereas, this week is set apart to salute and acknowledge the contributions of America's law enforcement officers; and "Whereas, the City of Gurdon welcomes this opportunity to show their appreciation to its police officers for their service and sacrifice. "Now, therefore, I, Major Rick W. Smith, do hereby proclaim May 11-15, 1998, as National Police Week and urge all of our citizens to join us in recognizing and saluting our police officers."
