Moms-In Touch prayer group for schools meets at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays at First Baptist Church. Call 887-6376 for additional information. A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be in Prescott in the Social Security room in the courthouse on Thursday, May 28, and Thursday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. Monthly checks can be paid to disabled and blind children. To find out if you are eligible, call 1- 800-772-1213. The Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngster's (HIPPY) is now taking applications for the 1998-99 school year. If your child will be 3 or 4 by September 15, you can enroll him in this home based program that is of no cost to the public. All materials are furnished free. If you would like more information on enrolling your child in HIPPY, you can do so by calling 887-3651 or 887- 6743. Commodities will be issued on June 18 at the Senior Citizens Center in Prescott. Your card must be re-evaluated before commodities can be received. The Laneburg Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. on June 1 at Laneburg Baptist Church. All interested parties are urged to attend. The Nevada County Day Service Center and Group Home will have its annual business meeting Thursday, May 21, at 6 p.m. at the Day Service Center. Goals will be set for the upcoming fiscal year and officers and directors voted upon. Staff, parents, consumers, board members and interested community persons are invited to attend. There will be a regular board meeting following the annual meeting. Meetings are open to the public. The annual children's day and homecoming will be held at Midway United Methodist Church Sunday, May 24. The children's program will begin at 10:30 a.m., basket lunches at noon and singing in the afternoon. A special invitation is extended to singers and friends by Rev. Jerry Westmoreland, the pastor, and the congregation. The annual meeting of Red Hill Public Cemetery Association will be held Sunday, May 24, at 2:30 p.m. at Red Hill United Methodist Church in Chidester. Southwest Arkansas Development Council Literacy Program needs more local volunteers to become tutors for adult students. You can change someone's life by tutoring. Call the literacy office to sign-up for free tutor certification training. 'English as a Second Language' and regular 'Laubach' tutor training is available. The Men of Calvary southern gospel quartet of Magnolia will celebrate their 23rd year ministry on Saturday, June 6, at 7:00 p.m. at Union Street Station in Magnolia. The group was organized in 1975 while they were attending Calvary Baptist Church in Magnolia. Members of the group are James and Wylie Staggs, Ken Ward, Kelley Shanks, Gavin Barnett and Rod Mays. This group has recorded 23 recordings. Their latest will be released this month. Other groups that will sing are the original Young Men of Calvary, Mike Harris Family Trio and Rock Solid, a teenage group. Brian and Misty McCain are proud to announce the birth of a daughter, Kayla Renee McCain, on Friday, April 24, 1998, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs. She weighed seven pounds, seven ounces. She was 19 inches long. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Michael Storey of Gurdon and Mr. and Mrs. Mark McCain of Prescott. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Thurman McClure of Gurdon, Lois and the late H.M. McCain of Prescott, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Cook of Arlington, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mitzman of Arlington, Texas. Prescott District Churches of God in Christ will present a musical concert Friday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. The choirs of the district and the Faith Singers will perform. Whites Chapel Baptist Church between Willisville and Bodcaw is having its revival services May 25-29 at 7:30 each evening. Bro. Jimmy Sayers will be doing the preaching. Munn's Chapel Baptist Church will celebrate its first anniversary of their pastor, Rev. Arthur Hill, Sunday, May 24, at 2 p.m. Special guest will be Lonoke Baptist Church of Texarkana. Guest speaker will be Dr. C.K. Yarber, pastor at Lonoke and moderator of the Southwest District Baptist Association. There will be a ribbon cutting Friday, May 22, at the newly opened Lunch Box. The Lunch Box is located at 104 East Main. The ribbon cutting will begin at 3:00 p.m. You are invited to drop in from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. for refreshments. Jerry ??? is the new owner. There will be an open house and ribbon cutting for The Tobacco Shop on May 27. The new business is located at 1007 West First North. The drop-in hours will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m. Marilyn Bobo is the owner and Charlotte Rhodes is the manager. The monthly chamber coffee will be hosted by The Partnership at 116 East Second South. This will also be a ribbon cutting and open house. The Partnership is composed of the Prescott/Nevada County Chamber of Commerce and the Prescott/Nevada County Economic Development Office. This event will take place on May 28 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vines, Maegan and Spencer are proud to announce the arrival of their son and brother, Harrison Thomas, born Monday, May 11 1998.
