Baseball Contest SuccessfulBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 20, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Getting children, ages 7-12, interested in baseball was the goal of the First Annual Prescott High School Bat, Throw and Run Contest. The contest was held Thursday, May 14, with 27 young players taking part. They were divided into three age groups, with trophies being awarded to the following participants in each age group: 7-8 year olds Batting Drew Loe, 90 feet, 180 points; Fielding/Throwing Drew Low, 4.08 seconds, 142 points; Base running Gavan McCauley, 9.56 seconds, 194 points; Third place, total point score, Cass Martin, 383 points; Second place, total point score, Gavan McCauley, 392 points; and First place, total point score, Drew Loe, 478 points. 9-10 year olds Batting Roshaud Young, 138 feet, 276 points; Fielding/Throwing Roshaud Young, 2.81 seconds, 288 points; Base running Deon Coulter, 8.59 seconds, 291 points; Third place, total point score, Jesse Lowe, 629 points; Second place, total point score, Phillip Hull, 640 points; and First place, total point score, Roshaud Young, 830 points. 11-12 year olds Batting Zach Martin, 131 feet, 262 points; Fielding/Throwing Zach Martin, 2.21 seconds, 408 points; Base running Zach Martin, 8.15 seconds, 335 points; Third place, total point score, Cody St. Claire, 371 points; Second place, total point score, Jonathan Bennett, 384 points; and First place, total point score, Zach Martin, 1,005 points. The Curley Wolves would like to thank all of the volunteers who took time to help with the competition, and also all those who competed, said Coach Steve Crow.
