Local Chapter Cancer Society Meets

Published Wednesday, May 27, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

American Cancer Society (ACS) met Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Phyllis Stewart, president, presiding.

Bill Wright, area representative, introduced the new patient service director, Malinda Rhea.

They spoke on how cancer money is spent by ACS on research, education and local services to cancer patients. These services reach not only patients themselves, but prevention through schools and local activities.

Wright also cautioned Prescott residents to check on mail and phone solicitations, often from out of state companies, not Nevada County.

The annual golf tournament was planned and will be held August 15 at the Prescott Country Club. Details will be announced later.

The Great American Smokeout will be held statewide November 19.

Anice Ward gave the memorials report and Marie Eley gave the treasurer's report. Lanora Dalrymple expressed the ACS appreciation to all who helped in the annual ACS crusade held in April.

The next meeting was set for July 30 at First United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.
