Cosseys Are HonoredPublished Wednesday, May 27, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott Coach Bill Cossey has a lot to be proud of these days. His daughter Andrea, a point guard for the Wolverette team he coaches, earned several major honors during her sophomore year at Prescott High School. She was named All-Conference, All-State Tournament, All-Southwest Arkansas and to the All-Sophomore team. The Wolverettes took the 7AA conference crown, were third in the regional tilt and made the quarter finals of the state tournament. His older daughter, Angie, also earned many accolades during this past basketball season. She recently signed a national letter of intent to play her college basketball at Clemson University. She played last season at North Arkansas Junior College, where she was named a National Junior College Athletic Association third-team all-American. In addition, she was named to the Bi-State East All-Conference team and the Region 2 All-Region and All-Tournament teams. In her final year at North-Ark, Cossey averaged 20.2 points per game, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists each time out. With her help, the Lady Pioneers averaged scoring 83 points per game and ended their year with a 24-7 record. They were ranked 23rd in the nation. She also had serious offers to finish her college career at Nebraska, Memphis, the University of Arkansas, Tulsa, Southern Mississippi, South Florida, South Alabama and St. Louis. She said her second choice was Nebraska. Along with being a solid player on the court, Cossey boasts a 3.7 grade point average. She plans on earning a degree in business and later attending pharmacy school. She picked Clemson because of the faith the school showed in her. She said they were the first to offer her a scholarship without ever having seen her play. Clemson, last season, finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference and second in the ACC tourney. The Lady Tigers were a sixth seed in the NCAA Women's Tournament, before losing in the finals of the Southeast Regional to Louisiana Tech, the team that played Tennessee in the tourney finals. In the final national polls, Clemson was 14th. Dad also received notice during the year, as he was named Coach of the Year in the 7AA league. The Cossey family hails from Bradford.
