CCYDC Plans Wild Summer In Gurdon

Published Wednesday, May 27, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Clark County Youth Development Center in Gurdon is planning a wild summer for kids with the Neighborhood Environmental Science Activities (NESA) pro-grams.

NESA begins Thursday, June 18, at 9:00 a.m.

This six-week series of science classes from the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock is a unique offering, incorporating live animals, museum specimens, games and innovative activities.

Museum instructors will visit Clark County Youth Development Center each week for a one hour presentation that's more "just plain fun" than education.

NESA classes are an opportunity for children to learn about the natural world and some of the plants and animals that inhabit it. Students and the instructor will investigate the intricate web of relationships that connects us will the rest of the living world.

NESA presentations include:

Way Cool. Follow to the ends of the earth to discover the secrets of life at the top and bottom of the world. Life can be very nice on ice.

Wild Wardrobes. Wearing the per-fect outfit can mean the difference between having lunch or being lunch for someone else. Get the latest fashion tips for life in the food chain.

River Rovers. Come be river rats to meet a raft of river residents. The instructor will talk about current river habitats and drift through some Arkansas River history.

Travel Time. Back and forth and back again, migrating animals are always getting ready for the trip ahead, or on the road. Make your weekly trip to NESA to find out what gives them the urge to travel.

Bugged. There are lots of little critters with too many legs, but they're really big for bugs. Watch them creep and watch them crawl right into your hands.

Mighty Morphing. Amphibians were morphing eons before the Mighty Morphen Power Rangers. Come take a peak at some tadpole tails, frog feet and salamander slime.
