Beirne Residents May See Lower Fire RatesPublished Wednesday, May 27, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesBeirne Rural Fire Department's subscribers could see a decrease in their insurance this summer. The fire department recently was re-evaluated and the protection class was improved to 9/10 for its subscribers, according to Insurance Services Office, Inc., the company that did the survey. Formerly the classification was 10. The new classification will be-come effective July 1. "The new classification may result in a decrease in advisory property insurance calculations for many insured properties within the district and the outside protected area," Sylvia Nott, manager of Insurance Services, said in a letter to Royce McElhannon, president of the board of the rural fire department. Class 9 applies to properties in the fire department service area located within five road miles of the fire station. Class 10 applies to properties beyond five road miles of the fire station and to non- subscribers. The change may affect properties to a degree depending upon the type of building construction, the hazards of occupancy and other factors, McElhannon was told in a letter. Insurance policyholders should contact their agent or company to determine the effect this change in classification might have on their policies. Nott thanked McElhannon and fire chief Doug Brumley for their cooperation during the survey. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
