HIPPY Meeting HeldPublished Wednesday, May 27, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe first HIPPY (Home Instruction Program for Pre-school Young-sters) was held Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the Gurdon Middle School auditorium. Mary Nell Clay from the Arkadelphia Public Schools was the speaker. She gave a very challenging address, informing the children as well as parents on how to prepare to enter public school. She emphasized the importance of having a good positive attitude, listening, respect for others, a pleasant disposition and being cooperative. Other participants on the program were Davante Booker and Damien Gardner, who gave the Pledge of Allegiance. Prayer was given by Charles Cooper, president of Clark County Youth Development Center (CCYDC). Nia Giles gave a rendition of, 'If I Could Fly.' Rita Roe, principal of Gurdon Primary School, awarded certificates and gifts to the graduates. She was assisted by Yvette Anderson, secre-tary-bookkeeper for CCYDC. Fadie Gentry served as emcee of the special event. Lila Bell provided the music. Refreshments were served by Cathy Giles and Olivia Williams. The 1998 HIPPY graduates were Alicia McDaniel, Latorri Anderson, Tanner McClure, Destiny Blake, Yolonda Brown, Damien Gardner, Kharisma Day, Aushja Mitchell, Kenya Riley, Nia Giles, Davante Booker, Anthony Lowdermilk, Neco Gray, Britlee Williams, Tiffani Willis, Shakieda Grice, Justin Reed, Jasmine Dickerson, Rochelle Turner and Dandre Thomas.
