Kendal Hannah Crowned Miss Gurdon Lakes For 1998

Kendal Vanilla Hannah has been crowned Miss Gurdon Lake for 1998. She was crowned May 9 at the sixth annual pageant.

Miss Hannah is the daughter of Vanilla and Gregory Hannah.

First runner-up in the pageant was Jane'y Bell, the daughter of Theodore and Madgie Avson.

Second runner-up was Teresa Blake, the daughter of Clifford Mae Blake.

Miss Hannah was crowned by out-going Miss Gurdon Lake, Jennifer Coleman, the daughter of Lucille and David Coleman.

The 1998 Miss Gurdon Lake Pageant was held in the Gurdon Middle School auditorium.

Winners in five divisions were crowned. The pageant's theme was Always and Forever.

The winner in the Infant Division was Kristina Haynie, the daughter of Pamela and Ronald Haynie. First runner-up was Shakeia Dashawn Quarles, the daughter of Cathy Giles and Cordele Quarles. Second runner-up was Tierra Desiree Green, the daughter of Charmaine Smith and Steven Green.

Winning the title of Tiny Miss was Kimberly Buford, the daughter of Kim and Yvonne Buford. First runner-up was Simone Day, the daughter of Shufford and Kathy Day. Second runner-up was Kharisma Verica Day, the daughter of Shufford and Kathy Day.

Winning the Pre-Teen Division title was Destiny Talley, the daught-er of Leroy and Venua Talley. First runner-up was Felicia McPeak, the daughter of Teresa and Freeman Peters. Second runner-up was Toccara Laster, the daughter of Opal Laster.

Kimbelry Hannah won the Junior Miss Gurdon Lake title. She is the daughter of Mrs. Vanilla and Gregory Hannah. First runner-up was Erika O'Neal, the daughter of Barbara Mitchell. Second runner-up was Lavonda Buford, the daughter of Kim and Yvonne Buford.

Escorts for the pageant were Derek Anderson, Marcus Wright, Antonio Gatlin and Adrian Meeks.

Other contestants in the pageant included Angelia D. McClure, Bridgett Laster, Teshima C.D. Surbaugh, Treina Dansby and Amena Williams.

Emcees of the pageants were Mrs. Stephanie Radford and Reverend Quintin Radford.

The judges were Mrs. Pamela Harris, Mrs. Gwendolyn Floyd and Mrs. Vikita Hardwick.

Mrs. Darlene Simpson was chairperson of the pageant and Mrs. Vinita Giles was pageant co-chairperson.

Special entertainment for the pageant was provided by the internationally acclaimed Marching Cobras of Kansas City, Mo., and the founder and drill master, Willie Arthur Smith.

Other entertainment was provided by Nia Giles, Brannon Hatley, C.C.Y.D.C. Dancers, Monica Hatley, Quincy Charles, Jennifer Coleman and Monica Lindsey.

Committee chairpersons were Edna Hatley, decorations; Darlene Simpson, talent; Barbara Dickens, souvenir books; Charles Cooper, talliers; Elnora Gatlin, stage managers; Erma Buford, refreshments; Charles Anderson, door workers; Yvette Anderson, accessories, trophies and awards, Elnora Gatlin, rehearsal; Monica Hatley, choreographer; and Floreda Briscoe, accountants.
