Marcus Dale Crawley, a senior at

Gurdon High School, has been awarded a President's Leadership Council Scholarship to Oklahoma State University for the 1998-99 academic year.

The $1,500 scholarship is based upon academic achievement, leader-ship potential and school and com-munity service.

Each student will take a three-hour leadership class and will serve on the President's Leadership Council, which is both an honorary and working organization.

Crawley is the son of Jimmy and Terri Crawley of Gurdon. He plans to major in pre- veterinary medicine.

Only 260 entering freshman students have been chosen for this award, according to the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia graduated 314 during its spring commencement exercises May 16.

Michael L. McClure of Gurdon received a bachelor of arts degree in biblical studies and history.

The keynote speaker for the after-noon ceremony held at A.U. Williams Field was Dr. Ben M. Elrod, chancellor of Ouachita.

Dr. Andrew Westmoreland, OBU president, conferred the diplomas to the graduates.

Kelly Jo Allen-Whitlock was one of 18 students inducted into the Alpha Eta Society April 20 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Alpha Eta is the national honor society for allied health pro-fessionals. The purpose of the soci-ety is to recognize high achieve-ments in and significant con-tributions to the allied health pro-fessions. It also promotes scholar-ship and fellowship with other health professionals.

Whitlock graduated with High Honors from UAMS with a bachelor of science degree in radiologic technology on May 16. She was also awarded the Faculty Gold Key. She is one of eight students accepted into the UAMS advanced program for diagnostic medical sonography in Little Rock for the fall of 1998.

Whitlock is the wife of Jason Whitlock and the daughter of Kenny and Christy Allen.
