Potlatch Scholarships OfferedPublished Wednesday, October 6, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneStudents interested in applying for undergraduate college scholarships from the Potlatch Foundation for Higher Education for the 2000/2001 school year should begin the process now, the foundation administrators have announced. In Arkansas, 17 scholarships valued at $1,400 per school year, renewable annually, will be awarded in May 2000. Foundation trustees select recipients based on character, personality, leadership qualities, scholastic achievement, ability and financial need. Applicants must either reside or attend a high school located within 30 miles of a major Potlatch facility. Additionally, applicants must be: 1) high school seniors; 2) undergraduate scholarship students attending an accredited institution; or 3) adult applicants wishing to resume their undergraduate education after a lapse of time. It normally takes several weeks for students, school and references to complete the application information. Applicants are urged to obtain forms and schedule ACT or SAT rests as early as possible to meet the foundation's deadline. All scholarship application materials, including transcripts and official test results from either ACT or SAT, must reach the foundation in one complete package by February 15, 2000. High school counselors in Potlatch operating areas will have supplies of applications. Applicants also may request packets from Potlatch's employee relations offices, or by writing to the Potlatch Foundation Higher Education, 601 West Riverside Ave., Suite 1100, Spokane, WA 99201. Each packet contains instructions, application form and confidential report forms to be completed by the principal or counselor and references.
