City Receives FundingBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, June 3, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Prescott has recently received funding for enhancements at the city's industrial park. According to information from the Arkansas State Highway Commission (AHC), the funding came through the Arkansas Transportation Enhancement Program (ATEP). "The City of Prescott, along with the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, plan to develop an attractive entryway to the new industrial park," said Commissioner Mary P. "Prissy" Hickerson. The project has been approved for federal funds in the amount of $72,200. This project is one of 50 projects in the state of Arkansas, recently approved by the AHC for funding. The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991 established the enhancement program to fund projects such as bicycle and pedestrian facilities, landscaping, scenic highway development and historic preservation. These funds cannot be used for traditional highway improvement projects. "The ATEP program enabled the AHC to make portions of Arkansas's enhancement funding available to city, county and other government entities for projects of their choosing," Hickerson said. "Typically, enhancement funs pay for 80 percent of the eligible components of the projects with the remaining funds coming from a local source." According to Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor, the city's portion for the project was about $18,000, making the total money involved more than $90,000.
