Band Treks To DallasPublished Wednesday, June 17, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe Mighty Gurdon High School band was able to attend Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor water park in Arlington, Texas, May 29 and 30. The trip was to celebrate the band's award-winning efforts during the past school year. "Thanks to the wonderful Gurdon Band Boosters and the entire Gurdon community," band director Allen Wimberly said. "This has been a super year for the entire band program, and the directors and entire community applaud the students's hard work and discipline. "We had no problems with students on the trip," Wimberly continued, "and, in fact, a housekeeping employee for the Hampton Inn of Arlington came by to tell me that the rooms were in nice order and very clean, especially for a bunch of teenagers. This is what we all like to hear, Gurdon students representing their family, school and community in a positive way. The band, its directors and chaperones had a great time, Wimberly said. "A special thanks go out to all the people who have supported with your donations and purchases of items from fund-raisers to make this trip possible," Wimberly said. He also expressed his appreciation to Bill and Linda Hulan, Cheryl Reed and Billy Tarpley, chaperones on the trip, and to Ray Moseley, the bus driver. Wimberly said he is looking forward to another great year with the band, and he encouraged students to continue "practicing your instruments this summer."
