Andy Taylor has received an academic scholarship from First Commercial Bank in Little Rock.

Taylor is a 1998 graduate of Gurdon High School with a4.0 grade point average. He ranked first in his class.

He was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America and he was selected as a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.

Taylor is the son of Mike and Pam Taylor of Gurdon. He plans to attend Ouachita Baptist University this fall, where he will major in computer science.

First Commercial also awarded Ben Hood of Bryant the same scholarship.

The scholarships were awarded by the National Advisory Board of First Commercial Bank. Taylor and Hood were among 81 applicants for the scholarships.

The board is made up of 50 native Arkansans who are current or former corporate executives of major national and international institutions.

Donald G. Benson has been named a Presidential Scholars, along with 605 other students, at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

Majoring in physics, Benson and the others made a perfect 4.0 grade point average to earn the honors.

Students from Gurdon making the Henderson State University honor roll during the spring semester were John Bloomfield, Teri Dillard, Carlita Escalante, Timothy Golden, lee Hendrix, Erin McKay, Allison White, Melanie Wilson and Grant Woods.

Students on the honor roll were required to earn a 3.5 grade point average on 12 or more semester hours.
