College NewsPublished Wednesday, June 17, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneIn last week's college news a name was left out of the University of Arkansas at Hope Community College dean's list. Martha Evans was named to the dean's list for the last semester. Desiree J. Meister and Kelly M. Whitmarsh Diffie, both of Prescott, have been named President Scholars at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) in Conway. Meister is majoring in special education/elementary mildly handicapped k-12. Diffie is majoring in physical therapy. Making the dean's list from Prescott were Brian P. Cossey and Cary J. Cossey. Both are majoring in kinesiology/physical education secondary. To be named Presidential Scholar a student must maintain a perfect 4.00 grade point average on a minimum of 12 credit hours. To make the dean's a student must have a 3.50 grade point average on 12 credit hours. Several Henderson State University students from Prescott have recently been named to the dean's list and to the honor roll. Kristi Ammons, Carolyn Davis, Mendy Jester, Rainna McGuire, April Stewart and Patsy Wesson were named to the dean's list for the spring semester. Krista Burton, Monica Burton, Jennifer Chambliss, Jaslyn DeWoody, Melanie Glass, Teresa Hamilton, Amy McKinnon, Phillip Pine and Lori Williams made the honor roll. Dr. Robert Houston, vice president of academic affairs, said that in order to qualify for the dean's list, the student had to earn a perfect 4.0 on 12 or more semester hours of course work. According to Houston, students on the honor roll were required to earn a 3.5 grade average on 12 or more semester hours. Sarah Huett has been initiated into the Sigma Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta at Southern Arkansas University. This national honors society in history was established in 1921 at the University of Arkansas. The honors society is comprised of chapters from accredited colleges and universities. All members have completed a required number of history courses and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society that promotes the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.
