Red Springs EHC

Twenty-five members and nine visitors were in attendance at the June 19 meeting of the Red Springs Extension Homemakers club with Dorothy Nilz as hostess.

President Jean Toland called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. 'Slow Me Down, Lord' was the devotional given by Niki Schee with prayer by Georgia Schee.

Cooking with herbs was the program topic given by Sybil Harris. Members were asked to name their favorite herbs they used in cooking. Using herbs in preparing food can add new flavors as well as reduce dependence on salt in the diet. Vitamin herbs dissolved in water within 20 minutes is more safe to take than those that take longer to dissolve.

Linda Schuck from the Diamond Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross presented badge pins to those completing their disaster and CPR classes.

An invitation was given to attend open house of the Red River Baptist Association disaster relief team on Tuesday, June 23, from10 a.m. to 12 noon, for tour and demonstration of the disaster relief trailer kitchen unit at the parking lot of First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia.

Tom Tobin from Baptist Medical Center, Jay Smithpeters and Cameron Beene of the Baptist Paramedic Ambulance Service of Gurdon demonstrated the life saving equipment the ambulance contains, which is rated the best over other ambulance services. The paramedics took blood pressures, gave an EKG, and a tour of the ambulance. A subscription membership fee of $40 for one person or $50 for a household each year can be had. This is a great savings offered to the subscriber. Applications may be obtained at the ambulance station.

They give free blood pressure checks and answer any questions one might have.

4-H member Elizabeth Ezell gave a talk on 'Pet Therapy and Care of Animals.' She talked about taking her lamb to Pineview Care Center recently to visit the residents and the enjoyment they received from petting and loving it.

Tootsie Dempsey, Denise Ezell, Jean Toland, Mary McBride, Elizabeth Wilson, Sybil Harris and Jo Ann Baldwin attended the state Extension homemakers meeting, June 8 - 11 in Searcy. Reports were given on classes attended.

Mary McBride and Jean Toland were hostesses to one of the classes they attended. The group toured the Cutting Board and the Yarnell Ice Cream plant.

Saturday, June 27, at 5:30 p.m. is the date and time for the second annual EHC family picnic at Curtis Park, adjacent to the Curtis Fire Station. Square dancers and the Twin Rivers Singers will provide entertainment.

Georgia Schee won the door prize. The meeting adjourned with Jean Toland giving thanks for the food.

Dianna Bloomfield will host the July 9th meeting at her new home.
