Blood Drive Friday At Senior CenterPublished Wednesday, June 24, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe Greater Ozarks-Arkansas Region of American Red Cross Blood Services and the Gurdon community will sponsor a blood drive on Friday, June 26, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to participate in the drive, which will be held at Gurdon Senior Adult Center at 410 E. Main Street.. This is a 'Firecracker 500' blood drive and all donors will receive a commemorative t-shirt. "Historically, blood donations during the summer months decline," Janet Welch, communication specialist with the Red Cross, said. "Unfortunately, this is when demand increases. "The number one reason people don't donate blood is, because they weren't asked. We're asking you now to take a few minutes and help us save some lives," she encouraged. The 'Firecracker 500' is a special events blood drive that Red Cross sponsors every summer in hopes of creating more awareness for the need to donate blood. There are special Red Cross design t-shirts for the communities which participate. Every seven minutes someone in the Greater Ozarks-Arkansas Region needs blood.
