PicayunishPublished Wednesday, October 6, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneNot Much . . .After an emotional win last Friday night by the Prescott Curley Wolves and a garden party' (a/k/a yard work) Saturday, not much was on my mind (as ususal) for this week's column. This Friday night we go to De Queen (the space between the words is proper spelling) to take on the Leopards in 7AAA action. Traveling to De Queen brings to mind several things that I feel readers should know. Ray Kimball, long time owner and editor of the De Queen Daily Citizen and De Queen Bee passed away last year. His efforts for the newspaper community in the state of Arkansas is unparalleled. Kimball had the foresight to bring to his community several years ago a Nevada County resident as editor. Billy Ray McKelvy of Bluff City raised his family in De Queen and has been the editor for several years now. McKelvy's mother, Verna Loe, used to be involved with the Nevada County Co-op in Prescott.Who Knows? As you peruse your electric bill this month, take a look at your fuel adjustment. How that amount is determined was asked by several coffee shop attendees. They're still waiting on an answer. Those questioned so far, do not have a clue. But we're sure that the answer is forthcoming, possibly by next Monday's City Council meeting.Water Line Bursts. . . Several fire departments assisted Emmet this past Saturday night as an older structure occupied as a residence on one end and a clothing store on the other burned to the ground. It appears this is the first test of a water line with this much pressure. The line was begun under one administration and completed under another. It burst after most of the structure was destroyed. We know that several Emmet residents were worried about the break and know the Emmet city council and mayor will have things up to snuff before long.Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
