Former Redland School Students Gather

Published Wednesday, July 1, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

Seventy-two people attended the Redland School Reunion on Saturday evening and Sunday, June 13 and 14. Most of them were former Redland School students, married to a Redland School student or a Redland community resident sometime in the past.

Festivities began on Saturday evening, from 6:00 9:00 at the First Baptist Church's education building. Local folks provided food for a light meal, especially to honor the out-of-town guests.

On Sunday, the group gathered at the Nevada County Senior Citizens Center on East Third Street, starting at 9:30 a.m. The tables were covered with white cloths, and many flower pots of lovely live Caladiums decorated the tables and other door prizes were given away at the end of the day. These were furnished by Dawn McLelland, Dixie Clary and Mary Cox.

A nice meal of chicken and dressing, vegetables, salads, ham, pot roast, and hot rolls were served at noon. A variety of delicious desserts were provided by several Redland community people.

Dixie Clary, chairperson, gave a welcome to all in attendance. Harold White voiced the invocation.

Much reminiscing was exchanged at the tables during the noon hour. Later, a moment of silent prayers was observed for the ones who had passed away since the 1996 reunion.

After lunch, Bennie Cagle from Springfield, Mo., gave a talk about some of his experiences as an FBI officer, and later his coping with cancer and treatments. Everyone appreciated his revelations and his positive attitude, especially his giving God the credit for his survival thus far.

The gathering closed with unanimous agreement to continue the reunion at least through the year 2000.
