Scott To Speak At Banquet

Dr. Kathleen Scott will return to Oak Grove after 33 years. She will be the keynote speaker at the NCTS/Oak School reunion banquet on Saturday, July 4, at 6:00 p.m. at the Nevada Schools cafeteria.

Dr. Kathleen Scott began teaching multiple subjects at Nevada County Training School in the Oak Grove community in September 1947.

She served in several capacities during her 18 years at Oak Grove, such as librarian, secretary to the superintendent and board of directors. She also served as secretary to the Arkansas Teachers Association as well as a delegate to the National Education Association and many other positions.

After 18 years of service, Dr. Scott resigned her position at Oak Grove and took on a position in the Detroit Public School system in Michigan. While continuing her teaching career. Dr. Scott earned her master's and Ph.D. degrees.

Dr. Scott is noted for several accomplishments. She organized trips to London, England; Madrid, Spain; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Honolulu, Hawaii, in which she was accompanied by 75 to 100 students on each trip. Dr. Scott also developed an attendance policy for area schools in Detroit.

She is a member of Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Alliance of Black School Educators, Phi Beta Kappa, and the American Library Association.

Dr. Scott is highly respected by her former students and peers at Oak Grove for her hard nose, no-nonsense attitude toward learning during her tenure at Oak Grove.

The reunion festivities will begin this Friday, July 3, with registration at the Oak Grove Day Care Center (Oak Grove campus) from 8 a.m.-12 noon. The picnic will be at Coleman's Park beginning at noon.

Festivities will climax on July 4 with a banquet beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the reunion ball beginning at 9:30 p.m.

If you failed to preregister, fees are as follows: picnic $15, banquet $15 and reunion ball $10.

All NCTS/Oak Grove alumni are urged to attend.
