Stivers Family Hold Reunion

Published Wednesday, July 1, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

A total of 49 family members enjoyed the Stivers family reunion held Saturday, June 27, at the Prescott Housing Authority community room.

The doors opened at 10:00 a.m. with everyone signing in and beginning a day of reminiscing about the old days and catching up on all the family news. This was followed by a delicious potluck meal served at noon.

After the meal the adults enjoyed some word games while the younger generation chose outside games of baseball and football and the toddlers enjoyed the playground out back. A pinata was broken open after several whacks by the youngsters and assisted by Mary McCollough, spilling out candy and gum which was enjoyed for the rest of the afternoon.

Prizes and certificates were given out to the oldest, John McCollough at age 93, and youngest, Axl Layn Niemeyer, age 4 months. Opal Woolley won the one with the most family members present with 18 children and grandchildren, and to the the one who traveled the farthest was won by Gilbert Niemeyer, traveling 630 miles from Witchita, Kansas.

After a picture taking session, the reunion was moved to Lavern and Jody Stivers' home for a hayride through the country and a weiner roast, which was enjoyed by everyone.

It was well into the evening when most everyone left for their homes. Rene Tankersley and Judy and Eddie Parnell stayed on to visit with Lavern and Jody, accompanied by the Stivers' grandchildren, Deidre, Amber and Brady Stivers, who also stayed the night.

Eddy Tankersley and Ted and Barbara Stivers came in early Sunday morning as they all had to work on Saturday and were unable to make the reunion. Everyone enjoyed a day of visiting and a barbecue dinner with all the trimmings.
