Dougan Family Holds ReunionPublished Wednesday, July 1, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Dougan reunion was recently held in Hope at the Citizens National Bank farm house. The Dougan families came to Nevada County in the 1860's, an Irishman named Dougan left Mayo County to come to America to seek his fortune. They settled between Prescott and Emmet. According to the Dougans, they became some of the best farmers in Arkansas. They believed in having lots of children, too. There were nearly 200 at the reunion, which included more smaller children than usual. Everyone enjoyed much chatting and laughter. The older ones told of hardships in the cotton patches.
