Ralph Friday BarnesPublished Wednesday, July 1, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneRalph Friday Barnes, 102, of Prescott died Thursday, June 24, 1998, in Hillcrest Care and Rehab. Mr. Barnes was born April 3, 1896, in Nevada County. He was a charter member of Fairview United Methodist Church. He was county judge for eight years, Nevada County's first Farm Bureau agent, a rural mail carrier and a farmer. Mr. Barnes was also a member of Prescott Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by one son, James Barnes, and one foster son, Bill Barnes, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one stepson, Benny Phillips of Prescott; one daughter and son-in-law, Emma Gene and Dick Stewart of Prescott; one daughter-in-law, Babs Barnes of Prescott; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, June 27, at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Westmoreland officiating.
