In less than three weeks, the 11th Annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Chicken and Egg Festival will arrive.

The festival is scheduled for the weekend of July 17-18 at the Prescott City Park with a full slate of activities planned.

Festival T-shirts are still available. All youth size shirts are $9, as are the shirts for adults sized small through large. Extra large shirts will be $10, with the XX and XXX sizes being $11 each.

This year's festival will feature a Pee Wee Rodeo for cowboys and cowgirls age 8 and under. The rodeo will include a greased pig scramble, calf flag race, goat throwing, mutton busting and a chicken scramble.

The mutton busting contest will be limited to the first 30 contestants to pay the $10 entry fee. All other events have no such limits and cost $1 to enter.

For more information about the Pee Wee Rodeo, contact Trish Milan 887-2473, or Jan Campbell at 887-2661.

Milan said the entry books will close at 6 p.m. the night of the rodeo, which is July 18. The rodeo will be held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

Another new item for the festival is the favorite chicken or egg recipe.

The recipes must be typed or legibly printed on a standard size sheet of paper (81/2 x 11) on one side only.

The name, address and phone number of the entrant must be included.

For the chicken recipes, each must contain at least one pound or three ounces of cooked chicken per serving.

On the egg side, a minimum of three eggs must be used as the key ingredient. Two egg whites will count as one whole egg for the recipe.

Entries must be prepared and be ready by 3 p.m. Friday, July 17, with the winners being named at 7 p.m. at the entertainment area.

First prize for chicken and egg recipes will net the winner $50, while second place takes home $25. Ribbons will also be given out.

Awards will be presented to all age groups three deep unless the group is marked by an asterisk then awards will be presented two deep.

Overall awards, Godwin said, will be presented three deep in the wheelchair division for men and women and the male and female walkers.

T-shirts will be given to the first 80 entrants, with all others being mailed later. T-shirts and medals will be presented to all children in the event.
