Trailblazers Return From 12 Day Trip To North (cont)Published Wednesday, July 8, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayuneey saw various Victorian homes that were built before the Civil War. The mining of lead and zinc brought great wealth to the area and the mine owners chose to build their homes their. While in Carthage the group went to the Precious Moments Chapel which was created by artist, Samuel Butcher. The chapel features more than 50 spectacular murals and 24 stained glass windows. It has become one of Missouri's most popular attractions. The group went to the Fountain of Angels Amphitheater to hear the musical score of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The theater utilizes 42 speakers and 14 amplifiers to broadcast the production. During peak formations 16,000 gallons of water are pumped through the fountain per minute. There are 252 bronze angels and animal sculptures on the fountain, some weighing as much as a thousand pounds each. When the group arrived back in northwest Arkansas, they stopped at Belle Vista and toured the Mildred Cooper Memorial Chapel that was built by the famous architect, Fay Jones. In Fayetteville, they were met by Scott Caldwell, director of development for the College of Education at the University of Arkansas. He took the group for a tour of Bud Walton Arena and the UA campus. The group ate at the newly renovated Ozark Brewery on Dickson Street. Each Sunday devotionals were given on the bus by Glenda Westmoreland and James Ed Martin. The singing of hymns was led by Sue Lambert. The group was also entertained on the trip by Lenora McWilliams, performing her Minnie Pearl skit. Those making the trip from Prescott were Sybil Sherman, Bobbie Gautsche, Marie Ely, Ann Wilson, Virginia Easterling, Janice Harrison, W.J. and Blanch Oliver, John L. and Lenora McWilliams, Billie Ridling, Flo Brackman, James and Ann Oliver, Allene Spencer, Bobbie Jones, Pat Severns, Glenda Westmoreland and Betty Glass. Going from Benton were Polly Caldwell; Texarkana, Alma Brewer; Star City, Norma Hansford; Hampton, Nelle Thomason; Little Rock, Mildred Johnson and Carol Superczynski; Ashdown, Virginia Latimer and Dorothy Apel; Stephens, Joe Morgan and Mary Frances Moore; Magnolia, Scott Langley and Mildred Buffaloe; Tallulah, La., Sue Lambert; Hot Springs Village, James E. and Wanda Glen Martin and Leon and Wilma Lusk; Summit, Peggy Butrick and Sue Cornwell, Houston, Texas, Pat Keen; and from Shreveport, La., David Richardson.
