Rosston City Hall Renovations OK'dBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, July 8, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune A contractor has been found to bring the Rosston City Hall to code for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Jeff Smith, of Hope, informed Rosston Mayor Lewis Jackson he could do the total job for $4,727.77. This includes laying a 16-foot wide by 18-foot long slab for a handicap parking spot by the facility, along with hand rails a sidewalk and step. A section of wall will be removed with a 30- inch by 68-inch door installed there. The door will be wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs. An office wall will be removed and the two separate restrooms combined into one and made handicapped accessible. Smith's bid was for labor and materials. In other business, the Rosston City Council, at its regular monthly meeting Thursday, July 2, was informed the city has $26,000 in its water budget, which, Jackson said, is plenty of money to pay for the tank repairs and rent a generator. Jackson will pick the generator up July 9 or 10, with Eagle Construction scheduled to arrive in the area Monday, July 13, to begin work. Eagle, he said, has a $1 million liability policy in case there is a problem with their work. By this time, he said, the generator should be in place and ready should it need to be used. An electrician will be found to hook the generator up. Jackson also informed the panel William Tyler, district engineer with the Arkansas State Transportation and Highway Department (ATHD), will put signs up at the intersection and see what happens. If the signs don't help slow truck drivers down, something else will be done. Returning to the topic of getting City Hall to code, Jackson told the board a water line may have to be moved in the restroom to get the commode put in place. Additionally, he said, a rail will be installed along the outside of the building so people can get in the structure easier. The final few items of business included the council agreeing to purchase a hand-held radio for the water supervisor, J.D. Luck, getting signs made for the City Hall and fire station, renewing a maintenance agreement with Excel for the city's copy machine. This agreement will run the city $120 per year or for 6,000 copies on the machine. The city will also be paying $85 to renew its FCC licence. This must be done every five years, Jackson said, so the city can operate radios for the city and fire department. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
