Play Planned In Arkadelphia On July 9th

Published Wednesday, July 8, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Shakespeare is coming to Arkadelphia in the form of Twelfth Night, to be presented on July 9 by the Shakespeare Theatre of Arkansas.

The performance is sponsored by the Clark County Arts and Humanities Council and will be presented on the Quad in front of the Garrison Center at Henderson State University at 7:30 p.m.

The performance is free. Audience members will need to bring lawn chairs or blankets to spread on the grass.

The cast includes three members who have been students at Henderson. The students are Matt Waller, recent MLA graduate, Wyatt Hamilton and Brandon Eels.

The play is set somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle, taking a few liberties with the original, but the lines are true to Shakespeare.

The Arkadelphia performance is one of at least ten performances around the state, not counting those in Little Rock in early June.

Tom Parkhill is the director for Twelfth Night. Jay Randall is the producer.

According to the program, "Take the mythical isle of Illyria, located in the center of the Bermuda Triangle and add a taste of clam bakes, tropical music and limbo dancing and out comes a hilarious serving of the SFA's production, Twelfth Night.

In this mysterious Kingdom by the sea, you'll meet the natives who are on eternal vacation, listing to sad songs, falling hopelessly in love, and playing practical jokes on each other.

Full of spicy songs, amorous intrigue and mistaken identities, this Twelfth Night is the mother of all island parties.

In case of rain, the Arkadelphia High School auditorium will be the site for the production.
