O'Rama Held At HSU

The 1998 Southwest District O'Rama was recently held at Henderson State University and the Clark County 4-H members faired very well, according to Jerry Clemons, staff chairman of the Clark County Extension Service.

There were 35 competitive activities held at the district O'Ramas across Arkansas.

Members of a 4-H club may enter only one competitive activity at the district 4-H O'Rama. Each 4-H member competing in the district 4-H O'Rama must have been selected as the first place winner at the county O'Rama.

Senior 4-H members must place in the top three (talent activities) or the top five (all other competitive activities) to go on to the state O'Rama held at the University of Arkansas.

The Clark County Junior 4-H participants and their results were: Derek Buck, gun safety and BB shooting, participant ribbon; Elizabeth Ezell, breads, second place; J.D. Gober, bait casting, participant ribbon; Jordan Haltom, modeling, first place; Camille Hart, human developing, participant ribbon; Justin Hernadez, forestry, second place; Robyn LeMay, entomology, first place; Justin Mallet environmental stewardship, third place; Molly May, safety, second place; Josh Reeves, bicycle, second place; and Ashley Webb, forestry, first place.

The Clark County 4-H Senior participant results (seniors will move on to state O'Rama): Trey Burchfield, John David Coston and Cameron Coston, talent non-classical instrumental, first place; Michele Golden, animal science, third place; Scott Hathcoat, ornamental horticulture, first place; Arin Jenkins, talent classical instrumental, second place; Chance Leamons, gun safety and BB shooting, second place; Leah Lynn, forestry, first place; Kristen Mallett talent popular dance, first place; Paul McMillan, crop science (seed identification), third place; Amanda Thomason, forestry, third place; Michael Thomason, bicycle, third place; and Chad Thompson, talent vocal, first place.

Other seniors going to State O'Rama participating in a state only category were Leigh Helms, dairy judging; Derek Helms, dairy judging; Cody Thompson, crop judging; Cassie Lynn, photography; and Andrew Wilson, Mandy Shaver, Kelli McKinnon and Mary Lee all entered under meat identification.
