Fair Entries SoughtPublished Wednesday, July 15, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesFair time is just around the corner. Plans are underway for the annual talent contest held in conjunction with the Fair Queen/Little Miss Beauty pageant August 31 in Arkansas Hall at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. The Clark County Extension homemakers clubs sponsor this event each year. They are looking forward to a great year with many beauty entries, but are especially excited over the talent portion of the pageant. The talent contest was added for the first time last year. Anyone age six to 21, single with no children of their own, and has been a resident of Clark County for one year, may enter the contest. Applications may be picked up at the Cooperative Extension office at 423 Clay St. in Arkadelphia. The applicants will have try-outs that are tentatively scheduled for August 16 at Arkadelphia High School. Applicants will be responsible for their own costumes, instruments and props. A piano will be available, however. Only 10 acts will be chosen from those who try out. These 10 will perform between beauty contestants at the pageant on August 31. Those chosen will be divided into two age group, 6-12 and 13-21. Prizes will be rewarded. The top winner of the talent contest will be eligible to perform at the Southwest District Competition at Hope and may enter the state competition in Little Rock. Acts may be instrumental, vocal, dance, drama or comedy (no lip sync allowed) and performances may be solo or up to four people in a group. If you have questions about the talent contest, you may contact Carol Phillips at 245-3144 or Joy McCarty at 246-6605. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
